CURRENT HEALTH NEWS
H1N1 vaccines: The Douglas County Health Department is offering vaccine clinics free of charge for all Douglas County school-aged children. Go to the DCHD web site for more information.

Health screenings: Students in grades 1-6 and 8 will participate in health screenings on Fri., Nov. 20. More information.
6th Graders: Now is the time to schedule the physical exams required before attending 7th grade classes next fall. The exam may be dated up to six months (anytime after March 2010) before the start of the school year. Bring the health exam form to the doctor's office, and return the completed form to Nurse Bridget by Aug. 1, 2010. Students are not allowed to start 7th grade without a physical and the appropriate immunizations. See immunization requirements below.

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
Current 6th Graders: All students entering 7th grade in the fall of 2010 are required to show proof of a booster immunization containing diptheria, tetanus toxoids and an acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap). Other immunization not required but offered by many physicians include MCV4 (meningitis), Gardasil (human papalo virus & some forms of cervical cancer), also a second varicella vaccine.
Nebraska School Immunization Rules and Regulations
For students entering school for the first time (K or 1st), students entering 7th grade and all transfer students from outside the State of Nebraska:
3 doses of DTaP, DTP, DT or Td vaccine; one given on or after the 4th birthday
1 dose of Tdap (students entering 7th)
3 doses of Polio vaccine
2 doses of MMR vaccine, given on or after 12 months of age and separated by at least one month.
3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine (If student is 11-15 years of age and just starting the series, 2 doses of adolescent vaccine.)
1 dose of varicella given on or after 12 months of age and prior to 13 years of age (If over 13, 2 doses of varicella, separated by at least one month. Written documentation of disease will be accepted. See guidelines.)
All other students:
3 doses of DTaP, DTP, DT or Td vaccine
3 doses of polio vaccine
2 doses of MMR
